Who Can You Hear on OldTimeChristianRadio?
The
following is a partial listing of the artists that we play. These include
soloists, trios, quartets, quintets, large groups, and choirs. This is not a
complete list, but it will give you an idea of who you can hear when you tune
in!
The Blackwood Brothers
One of the most well-known and best-loved Southern Gospel groups
of all times. We are privileged to have some of their recordings
from the early 1950s, before a plane crash claimed the lives of
two of their members, as well as several songs from the 1960s.
Frank Boggs
The first artist signed by Word Records, one of the top
Christian labels of all time. Mr. Boggs has a unique voice and
way with a Sacred song. We feature many of his numbers on OTCR.
The Chuck Wagon Gang
Hailing
from Texas, the Chuck Wagon Gang is known for their old-time
singing of Gospel songs. We play songs from the 1950s and 1960s,
which feature sisters Rose and Anna, daughters of the founder of
the "Gang".
The Florida Boys
A great Southern Gospel group which has enjoyed a lengthy
career. We feature songs from their 11th, 12th, and 13th
Anniversary albums, released in the late 1950s. I really enjoy
their renditions of the old numbers.
The Gethsemane Quartet
A favorite quartet through the years in my part of the country
and beyond. Even though the personnel changed through the
years, one of the shining stars was Mrs. Penny Andrews, who has,
in my opinion, one of the greatest female voices ever heard!
The Harvesters
Another North Carolina group, the Harvesters had most of their
releases in the 1950s and 1960s. We have several songs by the
group, and hope to add more later.
The Inspirations
Also from North Carolina, the Inspirations have a unique style
that combines a country flavor with heartfelt, sincere singing
for our Lord. We have 40 of their greatest songs.
Paul Mickelson and Orchestra
A real talent, Mr. Mickelson was a driving force behind many
artists and was another Word recording artist, as well as
recording for RCA. His music is soothing and beautiful.
The Revivaltime Choir
As featured musical artists on the Revivaltime radio broadcast
for many years, the Revivaltime Choir blessed the hearts of
listeners while preparing them for the message, which was
delivered for many years by Rev. C.M. Ward. Their music is often
upbeat with the fervor that befits old-time songs.
George Beverly Shea
What can be said about Mr. Shea that hasn't already been said?
A beloved singer with The Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusades for
many years, he has blessed many a home with beautiful renditions
of great Christian songs. We have several songs rotating on the
station now, and plan to add more in the future. Bev Shea is
truly a treasure.
The Oak Ridge Quartet
From the late 1950s to the mid 1960s the Oak Ridge Quartet
produced some of the finest Southern Gospel style music to be
found. Led by the great tenor singer "Little" Willie Wynn, the
quartet combined personality with purpose to sing traditional
songs as well as songs that were relatively new at that time.
The group continued singing Gospel music for several years after
changing its name to the "Oak Ridge Boys". Most of the songs you
hear on OTCR are from the late 1950s to mid 1960s.
The White Sisters
When it comes to ladies' trios, it doesn't get any better than
the three White Sisters. The close harmony that comes from being
sisters certainly shines through in their recordings, as does a
happy, uplifting message. I've made a point to obtain several of
their albums, and we're playing several of their songs in
rotation on OTCR.
Recent Additions:
We are pleased to announce that we have recently added the
Freedom Baptist Church choir from Rural Hall, NC, as well as
some soloists and groups from the Church. We are also happy that
we have been able to add several songs by Abigail Miller, a
talented Christian singer, to our playlists. You will find a
link to Abigail's website on our Links page.
Another
group recently added to our playlists is the Calvary Quartet.
Even though this is a group that is singing today, they have
retained the great old fashioned Conservative sound. You can
find a link to their website on our Links page as well.
